Journalism and Free Press
My profession as a journalist and advocate for press freedom has constantly invaded my paintings. This series illustrates the phenomenon of crimes against journalists and the impunity surrounding them. I painted this series of 15 at the end of the 90s. "The three Irmas and her son," in honor of the journalist, psychologist, and social activist Irma Flaquer, from Guatemala, who disappeared and whose son was killed in the attack, shows the duality between the dark side of impunity and the hopeful light of justice. Several of these paintings are in the newsrooms of newspapers in Latin America and in journalists' homes. Just a coincidence?
